The National Pensions Office (NPO) recently held a strategic planning session to discuss key goals and aims for the future. Falling under the Ministry of Education, Human Resources and Culture, Pensions Office staffers were joined by Permanent Secretary for Education Mrs. Joy Basdeo (temporarily assigned to the Ministry of Tourism) and Acting Permanent Secretary for Education Mrs. Mary Rodrigues. Superintendent of Pensions Mr. Cyril Theriault said: "This was a great opportunity to discuss the future direction of the NPO with staff and to set out some concrete plans to achieve the goals this office has been working towards over the past few months. The strategic direction being developed will serve the government well over the next three to five years." The main areas under discussion were the registration and annual review of all pension plans; the investigation of all reports of non-compliance with the National Pensions Law; the development of a public education campaign, and the provision of advice on the National Pensions Law. "Our aim is to be a knowledge centre when it comes to the regulatory aspect of pension plans," said Mr. Theriault. "We also plan to address the evolving needs and interests of employees and beneficiaries, legislators, employers, and administrators."
